Our Team

The key senior personnel is led by principal director Con Nicolas, who has a vast wealth of experience over many years having worked in a variety of areas in the building industry.

Con Nicolas

Managing Director
Con commenced his career 40 years ago with the City of South Melbourne (now Port Phillip) and transitioned into various roles from Local Government through to private building surveying. His journey took him through various facets of developments with some notable projects including Southgate, Crown Melbourne, Federation Square and National Gallery refurbishment. A new career in fire engineering was forged in the mid 1990’s and this provided the nucleus for an enhanced profile in essential services and potent emphasis on commissioning of buildings. He is a registered building surveyor and fire engineer in Victoria, NSW, ACT and Qld. This compliment of professions has allowed Con some unique insight into the delivery and management of buildings. His experience in the area of essential services and commissioning has been a focus in the company he co-founded in 2019 as Nicolas Building Surveyors. Con now provides compliance strategy and management across all projects.

Angela Materia

General Manager
Angela co-founded and has been with NBS as General Manager since inception and helped establish the company’s vision and ethos. She has forged a strong leadership role and manages the day to day running of NBS which includes overseeing and evaluating the financial and operational performance of the company. Angela also brings a structured approach to marketing and brand management having played a key role in acquiring ISO 9001 accreditation and maintaining the core objectives of this accreditation consistently. Angela promotes a harmonious workplace environment with valued ethics and culture at the heart of NBS providing a focus to client needs.

Will Mackie

Partner
William provides a Senior Role with strategic advice and the successful management of major projects. William’s collaborative style and superior leadership skills allows him to proactively foster an educational experience in the difficult world of compliance management. He has made an otherwise perceived tedious and pedestrian process interesting and engaging to those who he collaborates with. William has completed various degrees including a Bachelor in Building Surveying, Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours), Graduate Certificate in Performance-Based Building & Fire Codes and Diploma in Building & Construction. William has experience on High-End Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Healthcare developments and is currently involved in major developments such as The Walk Hotel/Retail, Crown Casino, National Gallery of Victoria, Federation Square and Freshwater Place.

Kosta Paspaliaris

Partner
Kosta provides a Senior role in compliance management and plays a key tactician and interpretative role across all projects. Kosta supports NBS document control, review and assessment across major projects whilst providing procedural guidance and stability of office QA processes and practices. In unity with senior management, he provides a key role to the successful launch of technical reviews and is committed to the engagement of the client group in the compliance management process. Kosta has completed the Bachelor of Building Surveying and the Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying. His wide knowledge and experience in the building surveying industry spans across all facets which includes multi-unit residential developments, health care, industrial and commercial projects.

PETER BERVANAKIS

Building Code Consultant
Peter provides a key role in technical support and has an acutely forensic insight into services designs. He has a natural ability to dissect design documentation across all disciplines within the framework of compliance reviews. This enables Peter to visualise the interactions of sub-system services and architectural designs to perform an effective “clash-detection” review. Such a review enables inconsistencies to be captured and resolved at the front end of the design process. Peter has undertaken studies in Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management), completed his Bachelor of Building Surveying and is completing his Graduate Certificate in Performance-Based Building & Fire Codes. Peter’s experienced spans across various Multi-Unit Residential, Commercial and Industrial Developments.

TOBY CROSS

Building Code Consultant
Toby provides a steadfast approach to building surveying with an ability to make the complicated effortless. Everything is a challenge and all aspects of the statutory and consultancy processes matter to Toby. He provides technical support and his knowledge of legislative framework and building code compliance is automatic and exponentially expanding. Toby has an unreserved ability to interact with all key stakeholders in project delivery which has realised a formidable bond with key client groups. Toby’s growth in the industry has also enabled a better understanding of the commissioning process around fire mode testing and essential services. He has completed Bachelor of Building Surveying and is currently completing his Graduate Certificate in Performance-Based Building & Fire Codes. Toby has been involved in various Multi-unit Residential and Commercial Developments such as, Bendigo Hospital, East Melbourne Synagogue, and the Walk Redevelopment.

ALEX LVOVSKY

Building Code Consultant
Alex has a background in project delivery and management during his tenure in construction management. He has a profound understanding of the built form and brings to NBS a practical application to construction methods. Alex has a direct interface role with all client groups and provides key support to the leadership team at NBS. Alex has undertaken specialist consulting roles in the delivery of management documents for separable portions and has a focus in the handover delivery of projects. His knowledge enables a gentle transition of project delivery via final approval within the statutory or consultancy framework. Alex has completed studies in Construction Management, and has over seven years in the construction industry, including two years as a project manager. Alex has been involved in projects such as NGV upgrades, various Crown Melbourne alterations, and multi residential and commercial projects.

DANNY EID

Building Code Consultant
Danny provides support to the Leadership Group, has a key role in document review and technical assessment. Danny has several years’ experience in Local Government and Private sector and provides a diagnostic and commonsense approach to legislative interpretation. His technical competence is proficiently natural and provides instrumental support to the NBS group. As with the entire NBS team, he is committed to the NBS Quality Objectives to ensure client expectations and briefs are met within the statutory and consulting framework for project delivery. Danny is a registered building inspector and has completed the Bachelor of Building Surveying and the Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying. He is currently completing the Graduate Certificate in Performance-Based Building & Fire Codes. His experience includes domestic residential and commercial developments and essential services. His base knowledge with Local Government also provides an augmented understanding around enforcement action and the ability to provide practical and effective resolution outcomes.

AARON WATTERS

Building Code Consultant
Aaron recently joined NBS having worked as a Building Certifier in Ireland for over 6 years. His transition to Australian legislation was readily achieved as codes and standards in Ireland have consistent approaches. In a short space of time, Aaron has become a key member at NBS and is heavily involved on major statutory and consultancy compliance matters. He has a well-developed understanding of the commercial space, and a strong knowledge of construction programming. Aaron has completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Building Surveying, Ireland. He has an aptitude for project economies particularly when considering large scale work and separable portions. Whilst at NBS Aaron has worked on Essential Services projects, and major residential and commercial projects.

Andrew Walker

Building Code Consultant
Andrew has a strong background in project delivery having worked in the exclusive “high-end” residential construction sector for over 6 years. His experience spans from hands on carpentry to project management. He has undertaken studies in Sciences and majoring in Economics whilst commencing his career in the construction industry. Andrew’s site experience and academic knowledge has allowed a natural progression into compliance. He provides a key supportive role to the NBS leadership group and undertakes compliance assessments within the statutory and consultancy framework roles. Given his practical site background, Andrew has a strong lateral focus on compliance resolution and problem solving when undertaking consultancy services. In his time at NBS he has been involved in various commercial projects.

Abby De Luca

Operations Manager
Abby provides a management role to document control and navigates compliance with perpetual review on Quality Assurance. Abby has formed a key position to ensuring QA is managed and controlled to the highest order possible. In conjunction with the General Manager, Abby oversees all matters concerning day to day running of the NBS teams.
